Local SEO Checklist for Business Listings and Citations

Citations work best when they sit inside a broader local SEO system. Use this checklist to make sure listing work is supporting the business rather than operating as an isolated task.

Business identity and website

Confirm NAP and location data. Use a clear location page where appropriate. Keep titles, headings, contact details, hours, and structured data aligned with what customers see.

Make the site mobile-friendly and ensure calls, forms, directions, and other conversion actions work.

Google Business Profile

Use the correct business name and category, complete relevant profile fields, maintain hours, add useful photos, respond to reviews, and keep location details current.

Follow Google's eligibility and content rules rather than forcing keywords into business names.

Citations and listings

Audit existing citations, correct inaccurate core profiles, resolve duplicates, add missing important sources, then expand to legitimate local and industry directories.

Store profile URLs, credentials ownership, and verification status.

Reputation and authority

Build a sustainable review process. Earn relevant local and industry mentions and links. Publish content that answers location-specific customer questions without creating thin city pages.

Measure rankings and traffic, but also track calls, leads, bookings, directions, and revenue outcomes where possible.
