Local SEO Strategy

Local Citations for Multi-Location Businesses

Multi-location citation management is a data-governance problem before it is an SEO problem. Every location needs a unique, approved identity, and every downstream listing process should use that record.

Create a location database

Give every location a unique internal ID and store its approved public name, address, phone, location URL, hours, categories, manager contact, opening date, and status.

Do not manage locations as loosely copied rows across multiple spreadsheets.

Separate shared and local fields

Brand descriptions, logos, and category standards may be shared. Address, phone, hours, local URLs, and verification contacts are location-specific.

Document which fields local managers may edit and which require central approval.

Audit by location

Search each location independently and watch for cross-location duplicates, old phone numbers, closed branches, and profiles accidentally attached to the wrong location.

Large portfolios often justify a listings-management system because changes happen too frequently for ad hoc manual maintenance.

Plan openings and closures

New locations need a controlled launch sequence. Closed or relocated locations need a cleanup sequence so old listings do not continue sending customers to the wrong place.
